Moses Sedler

Moses Sedler is an accomplished cellist, composer, and recording artist adept in diverse musical traditions. His background bridges western classical training in cello and composition with eastern influences, including Indian classical and European folk music. 

Sedler’s compositions span a broad variety of ensembles and includes chamber music for string quartet, string quintet with two cellos, cello trios and cello quartet, piano quartet.  Sedler also has written for string orchestra, and full orchestra.

Sedler’s music has been associated with such composers as Max Richter, John Adams, Peter Gregson, Zoe Keating, Johan Johansson and Ludovico Einaudi.  

Sedler first studied cello and composition at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington, building a foundation in the western classical tradition and improvisation techniques. Seeking to expand his musical horizons, he later immersed himself in north Indian classical music, studying intensively under the renowned maestro Ali Akbar Khan in the San Francisco Bay Area. 

As a recording artist, Sedler has collaborated with top global fusion ensembles including Davka, Darvish, and Ensemble Chimera. His cello can be heard melding classical western harmony with improvisational scales and ornamentation from India and eastern Europe.
